Chapter 86: Girls

I'm gonna talk to you about a new show that I have become absolutely addicted to - Girls. This is a series I have wanted to watch for a while, but thought I would just start it anyway (even though I am watching several shows at the same time, including Game of Thrones, Daredevil, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, New Girl, the list goes on!).

This show is written, directed and stars Lena Dunham, the 29 year old absolute talent and my idol! She literally hits the nail on the head for all young women who are trying to lead an independent life these days. The show is so relevant, I would go as far to say that it is a more realistic representation of women in comparison to Sex & the City. Well, I can relate to it more anyway. For Sex & the City, when one of the characters makes a stupid mistake, it something quite large and maybe not a factor for many watchers, like cheating for example. Like myself, many other women are dead set against this. Women can sympathise with the character, but until you've been through it, not many can relate. When one of the characters from Girls makes a mistake, it's a mistake that probably each and everyone of us have made, such as getting morbidly drunk on a night out and saying something completely out of line to one of your best friends, only to have no recollection of it the next day. Or maybe not getting along with the person you live with, or seeking a guy out so much that one day, you're just not feeling it anymore. All of the above has happened in this show and it is incredibly refreshing to watch.

From left to right we have Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, the English Rose, the world traveller, the brutally honest bitch who is loved by men and women and that we all absolutely wish we were. Then we have Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, very prim and proper, high maintenance and an absolute stuck up cow which makes it hard to believe she plays Lena Dunham's character's best friend, Hanna Horvath. She's a writer, a creative, her heads in the clouds and she has a tendency to talk about herself a bit too much - but only because she seeks comfort from everyone. Then we have Zosia Memet who plays Shoshanna Shapiro, Jemima's ditsy all American but surprisingly intelligent cousin.

As mentioned before, this programme goes along the path to what it takes to be a young independent woman - being in unhappy relationships, being single, being adventurous and ultimately being unsure of actions that you take to get through every day. I think what is most funny throughout this programme is the sex scenes. Before I watched this programme, all I would ever see on the Cosmopolitan website were articles that would talk about sex and relate it to Girls. I don't know if you've noticed, but in Sex and the City, all you would ever see is Samantha Jones going full throttle on the sex scenes, almost to the point where it was quite ridiculous. In Girls, it just comes off as more realistic, but also explores the different sex lives each of them have in relation to their personalities they convey. Shoshanna is the Virgin of the group and when she finally thinks she about to lose it, she let's the guy know beforehand, because she's very honest and quite naive. The guy stops immediately because he doesn't want the hassle of being someone's first and actually refers to her being a virgin as a massive turn off. This obviously makes Shoshanna feel like she will never lose her virginity because she doesn't feel confident enough. Then we have the likes of Jemima who is a bit of a free spirit and has sex like she's breathing, because she doesn't give it a second thought - it just comes naturally to her (no pun intended).

Here are a couple of spoilers for you (some I have had to put link's up for because I don't have the permissions to put the owners video in my blog (whatever):

GIRLS - Dancing On My Own Scene

GIRLS - Hannah and Jessa

As you can see, all of the girls are different and brilliant in their own way, which is why I think this definitely reaches out to every type of women I have ever come across. Ladies, if you haven't already, please do yourself a favour and marvel in the wonder of Lena Dunham and her amazingly significant interpretation of life as a woman in the 21st century.

Anyway, hope I've sold it to you! If you've already watched a couple, what are your thoughts? If not, would you even dare to see if it's better than Sex and the City, ladies? Give it a go! Let me know your thoughts on the back of here, visit my Facebook or tweet me @triciabaxter.

In the meantime, I got to leave you with this little gem... but not from Robyn, from this pretty awesome BGT contestant I watched a few weeks back - enjoy Calum Scott's rendition of Dancing On My Own:

Have a good week guys!
Big love,

Chapter 84: Just A Few Things...

Howdy All!

Hope you all had a great week and an even better Bank Holiday! I had a VERY busy time. Went to a beautiful wedding of some friends of mine, Mr & Mrs. Hewitt! Wishing them all the love in the world and all the best for their wonderful future together! :) xxx

Quite a few things went on this week! Firstly, let's talk about the birth of our little Princess, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana - and what a beautiful name it is!

As it is the English Publics job, we are all quite critical about, well everything! So as you can imagine, there have been a lot of mixed opinions about it. But there is meaning behind the name... Charlotte is the female version of Charles, Prince William's Dad, and Elizabeth and Diana are obviously after Will's Grandmother, the Queen and his late, great Mother - Such a sweet sentiment. Massive congratulations to the Royal Family!

Another thing to happen... Mr. David Beckham (one of the most beautiful men on the face of this planet) turned 40! Doesn't look too bad does he? Not only that, but to mark his big day, he decided to join Instagram! Y'all know how I love Insta... And it seems he loves it too! He's put up at least 2 pictures every day since joining! Take a look for yourself...

"Great to see these shy and retiring ladies. Never a dull moment."

"#DB40"

"What a special and amazing night to be with the people I love."

"Here is a photo with Brooklyn, the real boss of the family! #DB40"

How... frickin... CUTE!

Another bit of news as well... Another Brit is doing us proud by landing a pretty major role. Might not be a big deal to everyone else, but I'm a MASSIVE horror movie fan. The scariest film I have ever watched is "It". Yeah... the one with the scary ass clown:

Yep, Pennywise the clown gave me nightmares for years. Surely that's a good sign of a horror movie? If you haven't already seen the films or read the book (that is absolutely feckin' massive by the way), this is a Stephen King masterpiece about 7 kids who are tormented by a child killing clown, only to find that he is still taunting them when they return to their hometown of Derry in their adult years.
So I found out that they are doing a remake yesterday... and this little ledge is playing Pennywise:

William Poulter. You may recognise him as the awkward geek from, "We're The Millers". Such a great young actor and has an extremely bright future ahead of him! With them eyebrows... he was DEFINITELY built for the part of Pennywise the Clown!

Anyways, that's the news from the past week! Hope you all have a great week ahead of you! Please enjoy a bit of Blur - Coffee & TV to settle back into the week!

Bizzle!
